Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle as they used a crosswalk on Old Oregon Trail in Redding, CA.
On December 12th, 2018 at approximately 6:00 pm, two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle on Old Oregon Trail near Shasta College in Redding, CA. The two pedestrians were using a crosswalk when they were abrubtly struck by a southbound vehicle. Both individuals, who have yet to be named, were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Upon review of the accident scene, there is an obvious lack of proper lighting in the area where the incident occured. In any case, a driver is to always yield to a pedestrian using a crosswalk. Even if pedestrians are not visible, drivers should proceed to intersections with caution. The inadequate lighting appears to ahve contributed to this unfortunate event.
The city and possibly Shasta College may need to allocate funds to install a cross walk signal at this particular intersection to alert drivers of a pedestrian. Many students from the college park off the roadway and frequent the crosswalk. This location is an accident just waiting to happen. This situation is a classic example where other entities may indeed be liable for the injuries these two individuals sustained.
At Haslerud Law Office we wish them both a speedy recovery.
