In early December 2018, Cottonwood authorities reported a fatal car accident along the I-5 freeway. According to their statements, an intoxicated driver struck another motorist at high speed, resulting in the death of the victim.
Based on reports from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 3:00 AM on Sunday, December 9th, 2018. Jacob Dahlem was driving beyond the speed limit and while intoxicated, heading southbound on the I-5. He struck the tail end of another driver’s pickup truck with such force, the driver lost control of the truck, ejected from it, and perished. The name of the victim has not been released to the public out of respect of their loved one’s privacy.
Dahlem was placed under arrest and brought to Shasta County Jail. It is believed he will be charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. If the family of the victim choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Dahlem, it is likely he would be found entirely liable for the collision and the resulting damages.
